fresh 48 photography tips

Looking for a fresh 48 photographer in Dallas, or just need a few tips for your upcoming fresh 48 session? I’ve got you covered!

The first few days after your baby is born are some of the most magical and memorable of your life. You’re filled with love and joy, and you’re eager to start your new life as a family. A fresh 48 session is a special way to capture these precious moments and preserve them for years to come.

What is a Fresh 48 session?

A fresh 48 session is a newborn photography session that takes place within the first 48 hours of your baby’s life. This type of session is typically done in the hospital before you’re discharged. The photographer will capture all of the special moments of your baby’s first day, from the first time they meet their siblings to the first time they nurse.

Fresh 48 sessions are a great way to capture the fleeting moments of your baby’s first days. Babies change so quickly in those first few days, and a fresh 48 session will help you remember them just as they were! These sessions are also a great way to bond with your new baby and create lasting memories as a family.

Why Should You Get a Fresh 48 Session?

There are many reasons why you should consider getting a fresh 48 session. First, it’s a great way to capture your baby’s newborn skin and features. Babies change so quickly in the first few weeks of life, so it’s important to capture them when they’re brand new. Second, a fresh 48 session is a great way to document the early bonding between your baby and their parents, and any siblings!

I know that when both of my kids were born, I was so wrapped up in my own recovery and taking care of this tiny human that depended on me for everything, I barely remember those first few days after birth! These are the moments you’ll cherish forever, and a fresh 48 session will help you remember them.

If you’re considering doing a Dallas, TX fresh 48 session, there are a few things you should keep in mind.

First, you’ll need to book your session early, as they tend to fill up quickly. Since birth can be unpredictable and babies come on their own time, I only take a set amount of fresh 48 and newborn sessions in Dallas each month.

Second, you’ll need to pack a few essentials for your fresh 48 session in Dallas. In addition to everything in your hospital bag, you’ll want some items specifically for the photos. I recommend Finally, you’ll want to be prepared for some downtime. Fresh 48 sessions can be unpredictable, so it’s best to be prepared for some waiting around.

If you’re looking for a special way to capture your newborn’s first days, a fresh 48 session is a great option. These sessions are a wonderful way to preserve your memories and cherish them for years to come.

What to Expect

A fresh 48 session typically lasts for about an hour. The photographer will come to your hospital room and take photos of you, your partner, and your baby. They may also take photos of your baby’s first bath, first feeding (if requested), and first cuddles.

As a Dallas fresh 48 photographer, I always follow baby’s lead! While newborns are generally sleepy and content, occasionally I will get a baby that just won’t settle no matter what we try. In this case, I switch gears into a more documentary-style fresh 48 session. I get less posed photos and more raw, intimate moments with you and your newborn. Some babies just need a little extra cuddling in those first few days, and I’m happy to adjust as needed!

What to Wear

My personal preference for fresh 48 sessions is neutral clothing with earth tones and subtle color pops thrown in. One to two patterned clothing items minimum, flowy and relaxed clothing for mom as she recovers, and a casual look overall is always a winner. The photographer will work with you to find the best outfits for you and your baby.

One of the perks of booking your fresh 48 session with me is that I offer full outfit styling for every session! I will send you a few different outfit combinations that I think you’ll love, and you can purchase your favorite items.

Can I do a fresh 48 session and a newborn session?

Absolutely! Babies change so much in the first month of life that the photos from your fresh 48 session and newborn photos will look completely different! Whether you choose to do a posed newborn session in a studio or a lifestyle newborn session at your home, you’re sure to receive a completely different gallery each time.

Here are some tips for planning a successful fresh 48 session:

  • Book your session early. Fresh 48 sessions tend to fill up quickly, so it’s important to book your session as soon as you know your due date.
  • Choose a photographer you trust. Take some time to research photographers in your area and choose one whose style you love.
  • Keep in contact with your photographer. Since fresh 48 sessions have to be scheduled in such a tight window, make sure your partner or support person keeps your photographer updated throughout the birth process and as soon as baby arrives.
  • Declutter. I know, you just had a baby and you’re tired. Even if you just shove all your stuff into a corner in the room you won’t be using, it’s going to look much better than a bunch of clutter in the background of your photos!
  • Make sure to feed baby right before your session. After all, a full baby is a happy baby! Be prepared to feed again in the middle of the session if baby starts to get fussy. This is a great chance to get nursing photos, too!
  • Crank up the heat. New babies get cold easily, so if your room has a thermostat, I recommend turning it up to at least 75 degrees for the time that your photographer will be there. I like to get a few shots of baby in just their diaper to capture their umbilical cord stump, and it’s a lot easier to do when baby is warm!
  • Be prepared for some downtime. Fresh 48 sessions can be unpredictable, so it’s best to be prepared for some waiting around.

Must-have items

  • Neutral pacifier. Ditch the bright green hospital pacifier and opt for a neutral one instead! This way, if baby won’t settle without their pacifier, it’s more aesthetically pleasing.
  • Solid or patterned muslin swaddle blanket. I love to do some loosely wrapped photos of baby near the end of the session. I also use blankets as bassinet sheets for an extra pop of color.
  • Name sign. Tell the world your baby’s name with a resin or wood name sign.
  • Knotted gown.
  • Going-home or other special outfit.
  • Plain white bodysuit or t-shirt. Personally, I prefer t-shirts because we can get photos of the umbilical stump easier. If you go with a bodysuit, consider getting a kimono-style. Babies tend to get upset when you pull a shirt over their head, so a kimono bodysuit is a great option.
